Lyme disease: A worm can take your life, what is Lyme disease?

What is lyme disease: A worm can be fatal for you. Its bite causes Lyme disease. Cases of this disease are increasing rapidly all over the world. Thousands of cases are being reported every year in America. Cases of this disease have also been seen in India. Let’s know about Lyme disease.

Cases of Lyme disease have been increasing worldwide for the past few years. This disease is caused by Borrelia bacteria. Humans usually get the bacteria through the bite of a tick (a type of insect) and cause Lyme disease.

Insects that spread Borrelia bacteria are found in most parts of the United States, but this disease is spreading to other countries as well.

Now cases of this are being reported in Europe, southeastern Canada and India as well. Insects that spread Lyme disease live in grass, bushes or forest areas, but due to changes in weather around the world, these insects are now reaching urban areas. This is the reason why cases of Lyme disease are coming more now than before.

Dr. N.R. Rawat of the Department of Animal Science says that insects are increasing due to climate change happening all over the world. Cases of Lyme disease are also coming up due to insect bites. Deaths are also occurring due to Lyme disease. This is because after insect bites, Lyme disease is also affecting the brain. If any disease reaches the brain, it becomes fatal.

What are the symptoms of this disease

A tick bite can cause a small, itchy lump on your skin. The bite feels like a mosquito bite. Many people will not even know that they have been bitten by a tick.

The symptoms of Lyme disease are different. It has different stages. Its initial symptoms usually appear within 3 to 30 days of the insect bite. Initially, rashes appear on the skin and they start causing mild pain and itching. There are 3 stages of this disease, all three of which show such symptoms.

Stage 1 symptoms

Fever

Headache

Excessive fatigue.

Stiffness in joints.

Muscle aches and pains.

Swollen lymph nodes.

Stage 2 symptoms

Red rashes on many parts of the body

Neck pain

Stiffness in the body

weakness in facial muscles

increased heart rate

pain that starts in the back and hips and spreads down to the legs

pain in arms or legs

Swelling in the eyes

Stage 3

Some people with Lyme disease report symptoms that continue even after treatment. These symptoms include:

Arthritis

Body aches and pains.

Persistent or frequent fatigue

memory loss

How Lyme disease becomes fatal

Epidemiologist Dr Jugal Kishore says that if the infection is not treated on time after the bite of a tick insect, it starts spreading in the body. After this, it first affects the liver and kidneys and then also attacks the nervous system.

Due to the attack on the nervous system, many types of problems start occurring in the body. In such a situation, this disease can also reach the brain, which can become fatal.

How to Prevent Lyme Disease

Wear full-sleeved clothes when you step out of the house

Avoid walking in grass or woods

Use permethrin lotion. It is a type of antibacterial spray and lotion. It protects against insects.

If you get bitten by an insect or a rash appears on your body, consult a doctor immediately.
